GoFundMe campaign launched to repatriate the remains of Cuban rower Ángel Fournier

MIAMI, United States. — Cuban athletes launched a campaign GoFundMe with the objective of obtaining funds to repatriate the body of the Cuban rower angel fournier rodriguezwho died this Thursday in the United States due to a heart attack.

The campaign, organized by the also rower Licet Hernández, seeks to obtain 10,000 dollars so that the remains of the athlete are transferred to his homeland and also to offer help to his family.

“Due to life circumstances we have lost a great athlete, father, brother and friend. Whoever wants to collaborate can do so through this link”, indicated Hernández.

The shirt, who was a gold medalist at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz 2014 and a silver medalist at the XVII Pan American Games in Toronto 2015, also shared the campaign on her Facebook profile.

“We are trying to raise funds for the repatriation of the body of Ángel Fournier Rodríguez and to help his family. Any help, no matter how small, is appreciated. May God bless you all and always protect the family,” he wrote.

Ángel Fournier, one of the best Cuban athletes of the last decades, died today at the age of 34.

The deceased rower had requested withdrawal from the national team in 2020 after heart problems were detected.

Born in the municipality of Caimanera (Guantanamo), on December 31, 1988, Ángel Fournier stood out in the single sculls modality, in which he won three medals in World Championships: silver in Chungju 2013 and Sarasota 2017, and bronze in Amsterdam 2014. .

He was also a four-time Pan American champion in Guadalajara 2011, Toronto 2015 and Lima 2019, and an Olympic finalist in London 2012 and Rio 2016.

In January of this year, Fournier assured the digital portal CyberCuba who was based in Dallas, Texas. On that occasion, the athlete did not rule out his return to active sport.
