Around 9:00 p.m. this Wednesday, a man entered the Luz Ibarburu Observatory, the network of civil society organizations that works on the matter of human rights linked to the recent past in Uruguay, which is located in one of the headquarters of the Pit-Cnt. He rummaged through several drawers, threw papers and urinated in different places. He took the cell phone from the center and grabbed a computer that he finally failed to steal.

This was reported by the night watchman of the premises to the Police, who are currently working to find the person or persons responsible for the robbery. In turn, the director of the Observatory and Secretary of Human Rights of the PIT-CNT, María Fernanda Aguirre, told The Observer that they are not clear about the reason for their admission, whether they wanted to enter the Pit-Cnt or directly to the Observatory.

“It’s strange how everything happened, there were empty offices but they went directly to the Observatory“. Nor can it be assured that it was for political reasons, since the shelves where the files of the ongoing cases for crimes committed during the dictatorship were not reviewed.

As for the cell phone, it was used for issues related to the dissemination of activities, social networks and contact, although it did contain some password information for web pages, a situation that implies that all the passwords are now being changed.

From the Observatory they hope to have more news as the hours go by and analyze, together with the Pit-Cnt, how to reinforce the security of the premises.

The president of the plant, Marcelo Abdala, referred to the fact on his Twitter account. “I am sorry to inform you that 1 hour and 1/2 hours ago today Luz Ibarburu from Pit CNT and large human rights organizations entered the observatory. They resolved everything. At this moment we are waiting for the technical police. We request the authorities to act as quickly as the case requires”.
