The president mentioned the social security reform and assured that the Broad Front “is looking forward to” its approval in this government
The president Luis Lacalle Pou was yesterday Wednesday at the lunch of the Association of Marketing Managers (ADM). One of the issues that the president addressed in his speech was the social security reform project, which is being dealt with by the Chamber of Deputies.
As he has done on several occasions, Lacalle recalled that “the entire political spectrum” said it was “necessary and urgent.” “If it was necessary and necessary 12 years ago, I don’t have to explain what it is in 2023,” he added.
“We agree with a political analyst who said that he does not believe that it has a political cost. If I were a political analyst, I would say that the political cost will be paid by those who do not continue, knowing that there is a social security reform that is necessary, ”the president stressed in his speech.
A few meters away, the president of the Broad Front, Fernando Pereira, together with the mayor of Canelones, Yamandú Orsi, listened attentively. The president addressed them and said: “I’m not asking Fernando or Yamandú or anyone else to answer me, but I’m sure they want us to approve the social security reform so we don’t leave that to you.” .
In this sense, he stressed that all “political parties” that intend to reach the government in the 2024 elections “will be relieved if this reform is approved,” Lacalle said.

In another section of his speech, the president referred to the upcoming Accountability that the Executive intends to present to Parliament. “I want to leave an internal message for the Minister of Economy […] the prow of this government toward Accountability must be focused on mental health and addictions,” he said.

On the other hand, he spoke of the tax reduction that the Senate voted unanimously and considered that “it would be for a Guinness record” if a tax reduction is not supported.
