Some 1,500 miners from Bajo Cauca in Antioquia, the Northeast and south of Córdoba left Caucasia this Wednesday in a caravan heading to Tarazá, awaiting a dialogue with President Gustavo Petro.
The miners await the formation of a technical table to resolve their requests. Saúl Bedoya, spokesman for the strike, affirmed that “It cannot be that while they are looking at options for dialogue, our equipment and machinery are being exploited.”
In the midst of the protests, which have been going on for more than two weeks, the Ministry of the Interior sent an invitation to the delegates of the Mining Strike Committee to a meeting with the Government in Bogotá.
This meeting was called for today, Thursday, March 16 at 10:00 am with the presence of the Minister of the Interior, Alfonso Prada; the Minister of the Environment, Susana Muhamad; the Minister of Mines and Energy, Irene Vélez, and the High Commissioner for Peace, Danilo Rueda.
The summons issued by the Ministry was answered positively by the Committee, which accepted the invitation and thanked “Your will for your timely call at this historic moment for the mining union.”
The Ministry of the Interior indicated that logistical issues would be assumed by them, with which the members will travel to Bogotá by means of a Police plane.
“What a pleasure for us to be in Casa de Nariño, although it is better that he come to Bajo Cauca territory”, Saul Bedoya said,
The spokesman stated that he hopes that solutions to the miners’ requests will be found this week, especially after the meeting with the National Government.
