Ana Carola is the 26-year-old Bolivian who is arrested in sri lankaaccused of traffic in controlled substances crime that in that country is punishable up to the death penalty.
“I am Carola, I am in prison, they have given me 25 years in prison,” were the words heard by the detained Bolivian aunt, through a phone call that left her distraught.
It was only seconds that Ana Carola was able to speak with her aunt, María Ruth Méndez, where she heard that she was sentenced to death and also, I asked for forgiveness and asked him to take care of his two children, nine and seven years old.
At 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday, It was the last contact they had with Ana Carola, a call from an unknown number with which they tried to communicate again, they sent WhatsApp messages again, but received no response.
However, last March 2 was the first time that Ana Carola announced about her arrest, that time, her cousin was the one who received the call, at 4:00 in the morning, where she confirmed that she was in jail.
“Cousin, they arrested me in India”was the voice that Graciela Méndez, Ana Cariola’s cousin, heard, making her get up from her bed due to the horrible news and immediately alerted her family to see what was happening, but they only got a second telephone contact this week.
The family assures that they did not know that Ana Carola had decided to leave the country trafficking controlled substances, lThe only news they knew about her was that she had supposedly decided to migrate to Brazil, in search of better days.
“I was shocked because we we had the kids, she told us that she was going to work, we didn’t know where, she only told us that she was going to Brazil, but when she called us she told us that she was detained there, that let’s forgive her and take care of her children because they couldn’t deport her”said the aunt.
But, the desperation of seeking help so that her niece does not end up with a death sentence, led the rest of the family to cry out to the authorities, seeking that she return to the country, or save her life.
The decision to publicize the arrest of Ana Carola, had reactions, leading her to receive threats through telephone calls, a fact that they have already brought to the attention of the police authorities.
“I they called from a private number, they told me: I know your house, mommy, and I know where you live, I know all the movements; If you were the one who made it public, now face the consequences”were the threats that the aunt received, a voice of a person with a Colombian accent.
These data were already known to the Montero Police, where the family of the Bolivian detained in Sri Lankato. Due to this situation, the two minor children left Montero and moved to another area of Santa Cruz, in order to avoid danger.
“Now I fear for my life, that’s why the children were also taken away because we’re afraid something might happen to us. I made it public because everyone in this life makes mistakesand if she did, it was out of necessity to see that there is no work, because his mother has the beginnings of cancer, just like I do,” said Méndez.
They appeal to President Luis Arce, the ministers and the authorities to help this family, mainly to save his life and to return to the country after serving his sentence in jail.
“We ask for help so that she can be extradited; If you have to pay a sentence, pay it close to your family and your country,” he said.
Ana Carola is a single mother of her two children, ages nine and seven, multifaceted and hardworking, as her family and her environment describe her, because when she became unemployed, she sought to sell food wandering the streets of Montero, but they do not know how she was tempted to traffic drug.
“He is a person who has suffered a lot and out of necessity, he sure would have done it,” adds the aunt.
