At least $70 dollars must be paid for an ambulance by the relatives of patients who need to have a CT scan on the outskirts of the “Antonio María Pineda” Central University Hospital, according to a complaint by Alberto Domínguez, president of the Single Union of Workers of the Lara branch of the Venezuelan Social Security Institute. , (Sutivss), who urged the regional administration to provide transportation for these people given the high cost of the short trip.
“It is not possible that in the Antonio María Pineda Central Hospital there is not a CT scanner or in any hospital in the entire state of Lara and those who require a CT scan must go to the nearest clinic, San Javier, and the ambulances that are outside will they charge at least 70 dollars as a minimum”, warned the president of the Union of Workers of the Venezuelan Institute of Social Security.
Dominguez, asked the governor of the state of Lara, Adolfo Pereira, to set up an ambulance “even for these cases of CT scans”, pointing out that the further the travel distance “obviously it is more expensive”, giving as an example that “from Carora to Barquisimeto exceeds the 400 dollars the transfer in ambulance».
He also pointed out that “since in the central hospital there is no laboratory, there is no tomography, there are no x-rays… so the patients have to be taken to private places and that increases the cost of the family, because a tomography is 120-140 dollars, plus the laboratory tests, plus the x-ray plate, the supplies that the doctors ask for… that is why they have to sell part of their things,” he said.
