Venezuela celebrates 78th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Russia

The Governments of Venezuela and Russia celebrated this Tuesday the 78th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, established in 1945, ties that were strengthened with the arrival of the so-called Bolivarian revolution in the Caribbean country, in 1999.

Through Twitter, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, celebrated the 78th anniversary “with joy” of bilateral relations.

“We continue to advance together in the construction of a multipolar and just world,” he said on the social network, where he shared two images of the late President Hugo Chávez (1999-2013) and the head of state Nicolás Maduro with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.

In a press release, the Foreign Ministry recalled that, 78 years ago, the then ambassadors of the Soviet Union and Venezuela in Washington, Andrei Gromiko and Diógenes Escalante, respectively, “signed the notes in which this fact was recorded great significance for both nations.”

During the last years, he continued, in which “the United States and its allies have intensified the aggression against Venezuela, Russia has shown its willingness to defend international law and has extended its support to help overcome the sanctions regime and the criminal blockade that has been imposed on the South American nation”.

Last December, Venezuela and Russia signed 11 cooperation agreements in the areas of health, energy, maritime transport and anti-drugs, among other areas, for the next decade, during a high-level meeting held in Caracas, where a delegation was visiting. of the Eurasian country, headed by the Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Alexander Novak.
