President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said this Tuesday (14th), at the meeting of the National Front of Mayors (FNP), in Brasília, that federal public banks must lend resources to finance works in states and municipalities. The FNP is the entity that brings together managers from all capitals and municipalities with more than 80,000 inhabitants.
“I will work so that public banks try to lend resources to cities with debt and financing capacity. It makes no sense for a bank not to want to lend money for a state or a mayor to carry out a work. If the state and the city are able to, The money will not stay in the banks’ vaults to earn interest. It will pay off with work to improve people’s quality of life,” said the president.
Upon arrival at the event of the 84th General Meeting of the FNP, at a hotel in the federal capital, Lula participated in the inauguration of the Sala das Cidades, at Caixa Econômica Federal. The department of the state bank will prioritize the direct relationship with municipal managers for granting financing.
houses
When talking about the resumption of the Minha Casa, Minha Vida program, President Lula asked the mayors for support in granting public land for the construction of popular housing. “If the mayor can grant the land, we can build a house much cheaper for the poorest people in this country”, he defended. According to the president, there are around 186,000 houses with paralyzed works from previous governments, in addition to the goal of millions of properties in the coming years.
Still according to Lula, the federal government is also going to raise the Union’s assets that may be destined for popular housing. “I ordered our Minister of Planning to carry out a survey of all the public lands that the federal government has and to carry out a survey of all assets, in the capitals, buildings, houses, stores, everything that is abandoned, so that we can try to transform it into decent housing for the poorest people in this country. It is the way for us to end the housing deficit, which is a chronic thing”, he said.
federative relationship
Re-elected for another 2-year term at the head of the FNP, the mayor of Aracaju, Edvaldo Nogueira, highlighted Lula’s presence at the meeting and said that the entity was not received by the previous government. “We were never received by the President of the Republic at the time [Jair Bolsonaro]. And, this year, we have already been received by your Excellency twice”, he said. Nogueira reinforced the proposal to create a Federation Council, to bring together, on an equal basis, representatives of the federal government, state governments and municipal governments.
The president reinforced that it is not possible to govern the country without taking into account the demands of mayors and governors, and he pledged to maintain a republican relationship with all municipal managers in the country. “I don’t want to know what party you belong to, what team you support, I don’t want to know your religion. The only thing I want to know is that you were elected by the democratic vote of the people of the city where you live”, said the president. .
