The Cuban Elisbet Gámez won her third gold medal on Monday at the Malaysian Open in swimming by dominating the final of the 200-meter freestyle.

The 26-year-old from Baracoa covered the distance in 2:00.85 minutes, and was accompanied on the podium by the Mongolian Enkhkhuslen Batbayar (2:03.23) and the Taiwanese Szu-An Chen (2:05.82), according to the official statistics of the contest, reviewed by the Cuban News Agency (ACN).

On the previous day, the best Cuban swimmer of recent times won the 100-meter freestyle test with 55.40 seconds, a mark with which she improved her own national record of 55.51 seconds registered in 2018.

Gámez had debuted with victory in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 4:15.25 minutes, a new record for the competition, which since 2014 was 4:16.83.

The media specifies that with this fight the Cuban culminates her successful program of training and competitions developed in Thailand thanks to a scholarship granted by World Aquatics, the governing organization of swimming on the planet.

Elisbet already has three top-level brands for Panamerican Games of Santiago de Chile 2023, and after his return to the island he will lead the group of 12 swimmers that will participate in the Santo Domingo Open, from March 30 to April 2.

This contest will qualify for the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador, which will be held at the beginning of June.
