The Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve, sent a message – without mentioning him directly – to the mayor of La Florida, Rodolfo Carter as a result of the collapse of “narco houses” that he has carried out in his commune.
The Chamber of Deputies and Deputies votes this day on the report of the mixed commission of the project that modifies Law 20,000 to strengthen the fight against drug trafficking, and it is expected that the Senate will do the same in the following days. In this sense, Monsalve told radio Cooperative that the new law “allows not to demolish a house, but to demolish the assets of criminal organizations, because houses are demolished, but the organizations have assets to buy another and store weapons and drugs in that one.”
He stressed that it will reinforce “the confiscation for profits, to take away the profits from crime, but it will also configure other figures that will give the State a lot of power to take away their assets: the confiscation without conviction, the extended confiscation and the equivalence confiscation”.
It is in this context that Monsalve compared the policy against drug crime that takes place in Florida. “I like efficiency in solving problems,” Monsalve commented.
“Demolishing a house is very significant for those who live in the neighborhood, because it is synonymous with crime and fear, and it solves that feeling of fear, but that criminal organization is going to buy another house. Therefore, the question is whether it solves the problem I would say that it is more gimmicky than effective within the framework of the country’s global problem,” he added.
Carter’s response
The aforementioned mayor Rodolfo Carter responded to the summons of Undersecretary Monsalve, assuring that “the only certain thing is that this Government and its security policies are neither effective nor effective, but rather useless. That is how people feel it, that is how the surveys, which have failed this government in all areas of management, including security, those same surveys, for the rest, indicate that 90% of the people approve of what we have done in Florida”.
“Therefore, Undersecretary Monsalve, only two things: first, end this jacket policy, of criticizing anyone who dares to do something different and second, learn to do the four operations well: stop subtracting and dividing the Chileans, because they have been doing it for a year and that is how it has gone. Learn, there is still time, to add and multiply. To add to all those who want to help make Chile a better country and above all, Undersecretary, multiply the initiatives against crime and in favor of citizens, you have the powers, you have the obligation, because finally the mayors, With the few powers we have, we try to defend citizens who live trapped between unleashed crime and very mediocre politicians,” he added.
