MIAMI, United States. – The Cuban community of Miami came together to raise funds in order to repatriate to the Island the bodies of a family that died in an alleged case of homicide-suicide in Miami Lakes.
The family, which had arrived in Miami just a month and a half ago, was made up of Bárbara David Bermúdez, 58, and her children Alejandro Ferrer David and Beatriz Ferrer David, 24 and 22, respectively.
The crime took place last Friday, at approximately 9:52 am at residence 14800 NW 87Th Court, in Miami Lakes.
The organizer of the recaudation, Idalmis Cueva, called on the community to help in the cause: “We are raising funds to send these bodies, victims of a tragic event, next to their loved ones, donate what you can, a peso makes a difference. We look forward to your collaboration.”
In less than a day, more than $23,000 was raised. Meanwhile, the goal of $25,000 was surpassed in a short time. The GoFundMe spokeswoman confirmed to The New Herald that in total, more than 300 people donated to the cause.
According to this medium, the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) is investigating the case, which is supposed to be an alleged homicide-suicide.
Police found five people dead in the house with apparent gunshot wounds. One of the men was found inside a bedroom with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, leading investigators to believe this case was a murder/suicide.
“In total, five people were found dead, four of them by firearms, and another person who appears to have taken his own life,” said the spokesman for the Police Department of Miami-DadeAlvaro Zabaleta.
So far, authorities have yet to identify the five people killed.
