District Attorney’s Office warned with initiating criminal proceedings for agio and financial crimes to people who sell the dollar above the official price of Bs 6.86 for purchase and Bs 6.96 for sale. The warning was made at a time when the unofficial price exceeds Bs 7 in the streets of Santa Cruz.
The judicial authority was approached this weekend by journalists, given the unusual demand for dollars registered since the first days of March. This caused the price to exceed the official price on the streets. From the Central Bank of Bolivia (BCB) they attributed this situation to rumors.
“The State is the regulatory body for foreign currency and the public is being misinformed, causing alarm in the networks and through telephones. If people are found committing agio and financial crimes, They will be prosecuted by the Police and the Public Ministry“Marica pointed out.
He then explained that “the agio has up to 3 years in jail and financial crimes are punishable by 5 to 10 years in jail.”
The judicial authority even revealed that several complaints were already received about the sale above the price established by the Central Bank of Bolivia (BCB) which is Bs 6.96.
“We have seen through social networks and I have received calls about speculation regarding the rise of the dollar. This causes instability, the state is the only one that can define the exchange rate, the public is being alarmed”, he narrowed.
For his part, the Vice Minister of Consumer Defense, José Silva, admitted that there are free traders and foreigners who would be selling the dollar above Bs 7.5.
“There are no dollar supply problems in Bolivia. We are not going to allow rumors and lies to cause concern in the Bolivian population,” she said.
