“Animation is cinema, it is not a genre”: Guillermo del Toro

Los Angeles, March 13 (Notistarz).- Animation “is ready to take the next step,” said Mexican director Guillermo del Toro, shining on the night of the Oscars after winning the statuette in the Best Motion Picture category. Animation with “Pinocchio”.

“Animation is cinema, it is not a genre. Animation is ready to be taken to the next level. We are all ready. Please help us. Let’s keep animation in the conversation,” said the filmmaker upon receiving the award at the Gala held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

The Mexican director dedicated the award to his wife, his children and his parents.

Guillermo del Toro and his co-director Mark Gustafson’s version of the Italian classic beat out ‘Red’, ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’, ‘The Sea Monster’ and ‘Marcel the Shell with Shoes’ .

For the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Oscar award in the Best Animated Film category with “Pinocchio” assured “that life is the journey, love is the reward.”

In this film, the Mexican filmmaker reinvents Carlo Collodi’s classic tale of a wooden puppet that magically comes to life to repair the heart of the grieving carpenter Geppetto.

In the version of the Mexican director, made using the stop-motion technique, one against fascism transcends among his messages.

The Oscar to Del Toro was the only recognition from the Ibero-American sphere in the 95th edition of the Hollywood awards in which the Latin American nominations for the film “Argentina, 1985”, the Cuban actress Ana de Armas and the Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón did not get their rewards.
