Desenrola, the federal government’s debt refinancing program for individuals, depends only on finalizing its operating system before it can be launched. According to the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, the expectation is that the scope of this program will be even greater than initially planned, in order to create “an interesting short-term dynamic for the economy”.
The idea, according to Haddad, is to include all debt that can be renegotiated in the operating system. The Desenrola guarantee fund has an initial forecast to renegotiate up to R$ 50 billion in debt, owed by 37 million individuals.
“But, in addition, we are releasing this amount, this tax credit, because creditors are interested in expanding Desenrola beyond the subsidiary ranges”, said the minister during the E Agora Brasil event, in Brasília.
According to Haddad, the government has noticed a “great interest also from those who have credits against people with higher income brackets, who are willing to renegotiate”.
The stock of debts with the potential to be settled covers 72 million CPFs, which represent a total of R$ 430 billion in debts protested at credit control bodies.
“The reach of the program can be very large. We have no precedent for this. There has never been a program like this. So we are trying to do our best because, if it is successful, it could create an interesting short-term dynamic for the economy”, he added.
“Imagine the number of companies that have credit; financial; benches; dealers; and public service. All these players will be able to join Desenrola”, he added.
According to Haddad, accompanied by the new Bolsa Família, the new Income Tax table and the new minimum wage, Desenrola comprises “a very reasonable set of measures that will allow the return to the market [cosumidor] of these families”.
