“Life was not easy Macario, but it was good to live it together”, the Secretary of Culture of the Government of Mexico, Alejandra Frausto, took the floor, citing one of the dialogues of the film starring López Tarso, the first Mexican film to be nominated for the Oscar.
“Dear teacher: you made us believe that you were immortal. This same venue, the Palacio de Bellas Artes, had not even been inaugurated when you saw the light for the first time,” said the official.
Salvador Garcini, theater director and friend of the actor, stated that Don Ignacio “spent more hours on stage than in his own life.”
“He taught us to do theater and taught us that culture is distributed in this country, that culture is for everyone,” he said.
The farewell words were accompanied by classical music performed by the String Quartet of the UNAM Symphony Orchestra.
The actor will also receive a last goodbye at the San Jerónimo Theater this Monday, March 13, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., in a tribute open to the public.
“As a symbol of all the theaters that have performed, we will be there tomorrow at 11:00 in the morning with Don Ignacio present to pay tribute to him,” Daniel Gómez Casanova told the media in front of the funeral home in the Pedregal neighborhood, where the remains of the actor have been veiled since Saturday.
The San Jerónimo Theater was the setting for some of the last works performed by López Tarso as A life in the theaterwhich he took to the stage with his son Juan Ignacio Aranda.
