The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Luís Roberto Barroso was discharged from hospital today (12). Barroso was hospitalized at the Hospital Sírio Libanês, in Brasília, due to intestinal obstruction.
At the end of February, the minister underwent surgery to close an incisional hernia. After the procedure, Barroso even attended the STF session, but he felt sick again and had to undergo surgery twice more due to three episodes of intestinal obstruction.
On Thursday (9), the minister left the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and was under observation in the hospital room.
Barroso is vice-president of the STF and will assume the presidency of the Court from October this year, when the current president, Minister Rosa Weber, reaches the age of compulsory retirement.
The minister was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Dilma Rousseff in 2013. He is also a professor at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (Uerj), the same institution from which he graduated with a doctorate in public law.
