President Gustavo Petro announced new measures against the mining strike that has been taking place in the northwest of the country.

From the House of Music, in Montelibano, Cordobathe president informed that, after several days of strike and the negotiation tables between the Government and the mining sector, “there have been several acts of violation of International Humanitarian Law”, citing burning of ambulances, confinement of the civilian population in the affected areas, lack of supplies, and attempted damage to the sewage and drinking water supply infrastructure.

This, as Petro explains, “indicates more than an attack against the Government, it is an attack against the population of northeastern Antioquia and southern Córdoba”.

Given this, the president announced the creation of a line of control for “all the yellow machinery in Colombia, to track its legal use, the large machinery that is used in the rivers of Colombia for illegal mining will be destroyed and we will intensify our operations against this type of activity that is depredating the national territory”, he snapped, citing rivers with concentrations of mercury.
