The III World Human Rights Forum arrives in the country and Alberto Fernández leads the inauguration

The third World Forum on Human Rights, the “largest global meeting of activists”, will be held in the city of Buenos Aires in a week, with more than 12,000 registered participants from 70 countries and the participation of President Alberto Fernández and international leaders such as José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, Evo Morales, José Mujica and Baltasar Garzón, among others, within the framework of the 40th anniversary of the democratic recovery in the country.

The activities of the forum organized by the International Center for the Promotion of Human Rights (CIPDH Unesco) will take place from March 20 to 24 in four venues in the city, with the exESMA Memory Space being the one that will condense most of the agenda.

The other three venues will be the Kirchner Cultural Center (CCK), the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism and Design (FADU) and the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA).

The inaugural ceremony will take place on Monday 20 at 6:00 p.m. in the CCK national hall known as “Ballena Azul”, and will be led by President Alberto Fernández; the president of the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, Estela de Carlotto; the Nobel Peace Prize and honorary president of the Forum, Adolfo Pérez Esquivel; the director of CIPDH Unesco, Fernanda Gil Lozano, and the secretary of Human Rights, Horacio Pietragalla.

From Tuesday to Thursday, the activities and special debates around 26 thematic axes will take place at the different venues hand in hand with personalities from the government, academia, civil society organizations and Human Rights referents at a national and international level.

The confirmed personalities

The dissertations in different panels of international figures such as former presidents José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero (Spain), Evo Morales (Bolivia), José “Pepe” Mujica (Uruguay), Rafael Correa (Ecuador) and Ernesto Samper (Colombia) have been confirmed. in addition to the former Spanish judge Baltasar Garzón Real and the Spanish political scientist and current president of the Republic and Democracy Institute, Juan Carlos Monedero, among others.

The Buenos Aires governor, Axel Kicillof; Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero; the ministers Jorge Taiana (Defence), Jaime Perczyk (Education), Victoria Tolosa Paz (Social Development), Ayelén Mazzina (Women, Gender and Diversity), Daniel Filmus (Science and Technology), Tristán Bauer (Culture) and Carla Vizzotti (Health ), among others.

The event will have the participation of more than 90 countries, 900 organizations from the government, academia, social movements and civil society institutions, and will give rise to 2000 speakers150 outstanding speakers and more than a thousand activities.

Likewise, on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon, in the Plaza de la Democracia of the Memory and Human Rights Space exESMA, a music festival will be held under the slogan “40 years for democracy and human rights”, with artists from confirm.

Also during the forum The II International Conference on Denial will be held under the slogan “Denialism as a threat to the democratic system: multidisciplinary key approaches”promoted by the National Human Rights Secretariat in order to analyze the phenomenon of practices and discourses that seek to deny and distort crimes against humanity in genocidal processes both in Argentina and in the region.

The forum will culminate with the march on Friday, March 24 in commemoration of the Day of Memory, Truth and Justice in which all participants will be invited to come together in Plaza de Mayo.

During the last meeting of the National Organizing Committee (NOC) of the Forum, held on March 1 at the CCK, the work carried out by the 24 Thematic Commissions and the realization of a “historical program” that highlights a ” new human rights agenda.

The significant presence of organizations from different African countries was also appreciated, reaffirming “the commitment to strengthening” South-South relations between Latin America, Africa and the Caribbean.

Besides, Prior to this meeting, eight prefora were held in different parts of the country and two internationally -the first in Brazil and the second in Morocco- to “allow decentralized participation, promote the democratization of debates and favor the enrichment of initiatives” that will be analyzed during the forum.

The forum had its first edition in Brazil in 2013, an opportunity in which 74 countries and more than 700 institutions participated, with 369 thematic activities and 127 cultural programs, among other actions.

In 2014, the second edition of the Forum was held in Morocco, with the presence of representatives from 95 countries and the participation of more than 750 organizations.
