MIAMI, United States. – The photographer from Camagüey Daniel Martínez Reyes is preparing to exhibit his work at the Gallery Art Number 23 Barcelona, Spain, starting March 17. The exhibition presents four portraits from the “Estampas de Domingo” series, two of which were taken in 2020 and the other two in 2022. The images have a recurring theme in the work of Martínez Reyes: Afro-descendants.
According to the artist, his portraits seek to show “those moments in which the human being searches for himself.” Martínez Reyes, a resident of Cuba, explained to Cuban newspaper that “Estampas de Domingo” is a project that he has been working on since 2020 and that has not yet finished.
Martínez Reyes considered the opportunity to show his work in Europe “spectacular” and thanked both the gallery and the people who have made it possible. Art Number 23 Gallery is a London-based art collective, dedicated to helping and supporting artists from around the world to exhibit and promote their work to new audiences through art exhibitions and other events.
The young photographer has received multiple awards for his work. He was chosen along with seven other Cuban artists to participate in the New York Triennial of Latin American Art, one of the most important events on the circuit, which was held from September to December 2022 in museums, galleries, and cultural institutions in the American city.
In addition, Martínez Reyes was nominated for the Urban Photo Awards in 2020 and was a semifinalist in 2021. His works are in private collections in the United States, Spain, Italy, Brazil, and Mexico. He has also participated in collective exhibitions in some of those countries.
The photographer’s talent has been recognized in different international events. The opportunity to exhibit his work at the Art Number 23 Gallery in Barcelona is one more example of the place he is gaining in the world of art and photography.
