La Libertad: Families from the Wichanzao sector of La Esperanza lose everything

Hundreds of families have lost everything in the Wichanzao sector, in the in the where the heavy rains and the activation of the El León ravine ended up flooding homes and were even covered by mud.

Emergency

On Friday night, a heavy downpour surprised the residents of Wichanzao who, no matter how much effort they made to try to keep the water on its course, saw how it entered their properties without being able to do anything. The inhabitants chose to go up to their roofs and protect themselves from the fury of nature.

After a few hours, the mudslide not only covered an entire floor of the houses, but many also saw how the vehicles they bought with so much effort were buried by mud and stones.

On Saturday night, the affected residents got together and made common pots to share among themselves.

In addition, the Wichanzao dwellers with shovels in hand try to clean and remove the mud to recover their homes and some belongings.

According to the report of La Libertad Emergency Operations Center, in the province of Trujillo, in the district of La Esperanza, 500 affected houses and 300 collapsed were reported; 1,150 people affected and 2,090 affected.
