Eliminated on Wednesday in the round of 16 of the Champions League by Bayern Munich, Paris SG avoided another disaster this Saturday by winning by a suffered 2-1 in Brest (15th) with a goal on the horn by Kylian Mbappé (90).

Before the decisive goal of the runner-up in the world, the 19th this season in Ligue 1, the Spanish Carlos Soler put the visitors ahead (36) and Franck Honorat equalized for the Bretons on the stroke of halftime (43).

With this victory, PSG extends its lead to 11 points in front of Ligue 1 with respect to its main pursuer, Marseille (2nd), which will close the 27th day of the French championship on Sunday receiving Strasbourg (17th).

“People can say it’s a small victory, but it is a victory after all. It wasn’t perfect, but we had a lot of chances and we shouldn’t have needed that goal at the last minute” to win, Parisian coach Christophe Galtier told Canal Plus cameras.

“Coming here and winning three days after the disappointment from Munich was very important. We are in the fight for the title. Obviously it’s not the most favorable context, but the victory was the most important thing,” he added.

Carlos Soler, one of Paris SG’s best players in the first half, put the capitalists ahead taking advantage of a rebound from Dutch goalkeeper Marco Bizot (36).

But as has happened at other times this season, the team coached by Galtier ended up paying its defensive fragility conceding the equalizer just before half-time.

After recovering the ball near his own area, Perre Lees-Melou broke free from the Parisian pressure and gave way to Romain del Castillo, who threw a long ball behind the PSG center backs.

Franck Honorat beat Sergio Ramos by speed and beat Gianluigi Donnarumma (43) by high.

After the break, PSG pressed the accelerator in order to score the second goal, but neither Lionel Messi (55) nor Kylian Mbappé (62) were effective on the two clearest occasions for the visitors at the start of the second period.

And Bizot recovered from the mistake that cost his team the first goal with several excellent saves in the final stretch of the match, from shots by Messi (65), Nuno Mendes (70 and 79) and Mbappé (74), becoming the hero of the modest Breton team.

But Brest made the mistake of wanting to be too ambitious and lose by going to look for the victory, since it ended up falling on the Parisian side in a counter launched by Messi and that Mbappé concluded by beating Bizot one-on-one (90).

“Forcibly, there is a certain frustration, not only because of the result, but because of how it happened”, admitted the Brest coach Eric Roy after the match, who highlighted his team’s second half: “We were able to compete with the ball” against PSG.
