Gabriel Araújo breaks world record in the 50-meter butterfly class S2

The Brazilian Gabriel Araújo broke the world record in the 50-meter butterfly event in the S2 class (severe physical-motor impairments) when he completed, this Saturday (11), the heats of the event in 55s49 at the World Series stage in Lignano (Italy) from Paralympic swimming.Gabriel Araújo breaks world record in the 50-meter butterfly class S2

With this time he improved the previous record of the race, of 55s59 and reached by himself in April 2022 at the Paralympic Training Center, in São Paulo. After shining in the qualifiers, the Paralympic medalist secured the gold in the decision.

In addition to the conquest of the man from Minas Gerais (who has phocomelia, a congenital disease that prevents the normal formation of arms and legs), Brazil secured a gold medal in the competition held in Italy with Gabriel Bandeira in the 100 meter backstroke test for the S14 class (for intellectual disabilities ) with a time of 59s03.

The third medal of the Brazilian team this Saturday was a silver by Mariana Gesteira in the 100-meter backstroke for the S9 class (physical-motor impairments). She completed the race in 1min10s77. With these achievements, Brazil took the podium 14 times in Lignano.
