Pedernales, a jewel in the Caribbean

Valentine jumps into the void

I was recently in Pedernales, a province in the deep south that has many people watching, mainly from the government and private companies that are already immersed in developing tourism in that area. In fact, the progress that has been made in areas that make up the main municipality, Cabo Rojo and the surroundings of Bahía de las Águilas is noticeable.

Pedernales is already sold as a package, since it has small hostels, hotels, restaurants and areas for camping and overnight stays, and it is good that it is so, because this implies strengthening the province economically speaking, in addition to the contribution that these activities generate to the Gross Domestic Product. .

For many years the country has sustained its economy on two basic pillars: tourism and remittances. With the first, other activities are supported, such as responsible and sustainable tourism, in which the communities have a lot of participation, and this is the part that I want to elaborate a little on.

Doing a retrospective of my trip to Pedernales I was able to observe the town as such, the behavior of the people, their surroundings and the wealth that they have and that many, perhaps, are unaware of, and that is there waiting for that big door to end. to open and step to many business opportunities.

During the trip, I told a friend how nice it is to arrive in a town, to see friendly people who are aware of the treasure it has, but also to find a clean town, free of plastics and environmental contamination, a safe place, and Pedernales is a region beautiful, of industrious people who want to move forward.

In this sense, he spoke of how important the participation of the community is in each link, the complicity of each inhabitant in the projects that are being developed in that province. Because? Because for the people of Pedernales it would not be the same for tourists to walk past the hotels that are built in the Cabo Rojo area and not stop to walk its streets and get to know its beaches, such as Pedernales beach, with waters as crystalline as the Bahía de las Águilas itself; its history, culture and gastronomy.

I think that in each project that is developed there and in any other province, the community members must be participants and compromisers of the good that can be done in favor of the province and the country.

The private economic groups that raise these projects, in coordination with government representatives, must hold meetings, offer talks and manage training in various areas of services for residents of the province, regardless of age or gender.

One of the most important issues would be the decoration of the city. You imagine arriving and finding a clean and safe town. As any Dominican would say: that is priceless and the added value it brings to the province and its people is invaluable.

So it’s a good time these projects that are starting in the province to develop tourism and hopefully its people also care to present and sell tourists a clean and safe city, and that they take advantage now to reorganize since the population is small. That is what any Dominican would like to have in any corner of this half island.

The entrance Pedernales, a jewel in the Caribbean was first published on elCaribe newspaper.
