The name of the Spanish coach Felix Sanchez Bas resonated as the eventual next selector of Ecuadoraccording to a leak on social networks about a decision not yet confirmed by the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF).
A gale of publications in networks and digital media ensured that everything would be arranged to hire the former coach of the selection of Qatarhost of the last World Cup played between November and December 2022.
The publications assert that in the next 72 hours Sánchez would arrive in Ecuador to take charge of the team with a view to the two friendly away matches that he will hold against Australia on March 24 and 28.
If indeed the link of Sanchezthe Spaniard would find in the national team a base full of youth and many of the figures he lost against leading Qatar in the opening game of the 2022 World Cup.
The 47-year-old Spaniard began as coach of the youth team of the FC Barcelona between 1996 and 2006 when he left the Catalans to join Qatar football.
Between 2013 and 2015 he directed the Under’19 team of Qatar and between 2015 and 2017 to the Sub’20 of that country.
As a result of the planned work with good results, from 2017 to 2022 he led the Under’23 teams and the senior category of Qatar.
Among his greatest achievements are the AFC Sub’19 championship played in burma in 2014 and the Asian Cup title in 2019 in the United Arab Emirates, but left the team after the elimination in the group stage of the World Cup in 2022, as a result of three consecutive defeats.
This is another of the names that have appeared as eventual substitutes for Argentine Gustavo Alfaro, which has included his compatriot Ricardo Gareca, who, after a wait of about 50 days, ended up joining the Argentine Vélez Sarsfield.
Gareca and the president of the FEF, Francisco Egashad publicly acknowledged the negotiations that later stalled.
Another of the technicians who also sounded to direct Ecuador was the Argentine Sebastián Beccacece, with whom there would be no agreement either.
