“It is not possible for you to imagine that this country can be governed from Brasilia without taking into account the reality of Brazilian municipalities and states”, stated president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. “We have, just so you can have an idea, more than 14,000 paralyzed works. Works that started in my government, in Dilma’s government [Rousseff]. There was a paralysis. You can be sure that we will resume all the works. With Mãos à Obra, you will say which works in your city need to be done”, he added.

Lula was keen to point out that the federal government will not make a distinction between municipal managers from allied or opposition parties. “Our partisan disagreements will happen at election time. What I want is for you to know that we are going to try to recover civility in this country”. At the same ceremony, the president announced the readjustment of 39% in the distribution of school lunches.

The priorities of Mãos à Obra are health equipment, education, sports, culture, in addition to housing units from Minha Casa, Minha Vida. Managers will have until April 10, 2023 to include the information, the government said.
