Maduro congratulates the Government of Colombia and ELN for agreements reached in Mexico

The administration of Nicolás Maduro congratulated the Government of Colombia and the ELN guerrilla for the agreements reached in Mexico where talks between both parties are taking place


The ruler Nicolás Maduro congratulated this Friday, March 10, the Government of Colombia and the National Liberation Army (ELN), for having “successfully developed” the Second Cycle of Peace Talks in Mexico City.

The information was released by Venezuelan foreign minister Yván Gil through his official account on the social network Twitter.

“President @NicolasMaduro, on behalf of the Venezuelan People and Government, congratulates the Government of Colombia and the National Liberation Army (ELN), for having successfully developed the Second Cycle of Peace Talks in Mexico City, United Mexican States”, Gil wrote.

In the statement, Venezuela expressed its appreciation for the constructive work carried out by the parties in this cycle that culminates, “expressed in the progress achieved, demonstrating a high commitment and negotiation capacity, materialized in the agreements reached that allow the solidification of a frank dialogue , for the sake of the long-awaited peace of the brother people of Colombia ».

This Friday, the delegations of the Government of Colombia and the ELN guerrillas announced the agreement on a new negotiation agenda and the first steps to advance a bilateral and temporary ceasefire. A resolution released in Mexico, where the meetings are taking place, establishes that the government of President Gustavo Petro officially grants political status to the ELN and it is recognized as a “rebel armed organization”.

In the statement issued by the Maduro administration, it reiterates “the unwavering commitment to continue contributing with our efforts to strengthen this dialogue process and contribute to the policy of total peace led by the President of the Republic of Colombia, Gustavo Petro ».
