Minsa coordinates strategies to improve health care for migrants and refugees in Panama

With the aim of seeking support from other organizations and international cooperation agencies that are in the country and serve the migrant population, this Friday the Directorate of International Affairs of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) held a preparatory workshop on the care of the migrant and refugee population that enters the country through the Darién jungle and moves to the province of Chiriquí.

“We have taken this initiative to comprehensively raise a SWOT, which allows us to know the critical knots and the strengths that we have in each of these areas, to the extent that we can improve and develop our capacities to care for this population” , indicated Thays Noriega, director of International Affairs of the Minsa.

He pointed out that the work of Health with migrants and refugees, in each of the regions has focused on serving and meeting the great needs, since more than a thousand people enter a day, in very small host communities and the needs are immense. , which has made it possible to transfer psychological care for adults, children, the disabled, pregnant women and the elderly who pass through the area.
