More than 10 mining companies have been affected by the mining strike

The mining strike that completes 9 days in Antioquia, the Colombian Mining Association (ACM) called on local and national institutions so that the dialogues that are carried out in the area take into account the effects on people who are economically dependent of legal mining.

According to the union, There are 12 legal mining companies that have seen their operations affected. This not only in Antioquia but also in Córdoba. According to the Association, the blockade of land and river routes has impeded the access of workers.

They highlight that in addition to the effects on mining operations, it is also generating affectations in “social fabric, mobility, sustenance and access to health and education of the communities(…) preventing the transit of people, food, medicine, even the transfer of patients, putting the fundamental rights of the population at risk.”

For this reason, they asked that the government that is present at the dialogue tables with the communities thatand coordinate the dispatch of humanitarian aid and that they support the restoration of order in the region.
