Rains leave one dead and 7 missing in 3 regions

A landslide caused the fall of a wall that buried a 21-year-old woman yesterday morning in Bajo Llojeta in La Paz. Meanwhile, in the Tumpeca community, Chuquisaca, a 60-year-old woman and a 12-year-old boy are still missing after a dungeon. And in Tarija, there are another five disappeared due to the flooding of rivers.

At approximately 3:00 yesterday, a landslide was activated in Bajo Llojeta, which affected the back of a house that collapsed the wall of the room where Valeria, a young computer science student, was resting.

“Unfortunately, when this wall gave way, it has crushed a person who was resting inside it, a female person, who has died,” reported the Fire Director, Marco Navia. Valeria lost her father seven months ago and her aunt five months ago.

In Bajo Llojeta, whose name in Aymara means “place that moves”, municipal staff verified the area, considering that near that site there is a three-story house.

Yesterday, the Huayñajahuira river, one of the five most dangerous in the city, also overflowed its banks. The increase in the flow caused the fall of a lateral wall of the basin that affected part of the platform on Costanerita Avenue, in the Alto La Florida sector, where vehicular traffic was diverted to avoid possible accidents and drivers were instructed to take alternate routes, including Costanera Avenue.

Meanwhile, it was learned that Mariela Roca Cruz, seven years old, was dragged by the Palluni River, in the municipality of Laja. The incident happened on January 31, according to their relatives. An official report is awaited.

Mazamorra in Tumpeca

The rural community of Tumpeca, 42 kilometers from Sucre, was affected yesterday by a dungeon. There are 15 families affected, four houses destroyed, but also two missing persons: a 60-year-old woman and a 12-year-old boy, who were inside a house and could not escape from the overflow.

“The whole house has taken it, the animals, everything, this river where my mother lived,” said Eulogia Picha, the old woman’s daughter. He indicated that his mother and his nephew lived alone.

He added that the house was built with adobe and that his family was informed of the disaster by the community leader. About 50 people organized themselves to search for the two disappeared.

Overflows in Tarija

In Tarija, four rivers overflowed and there are five missing in Bermejo, border with Argentina.

“We have five people who have disappeared near the bridge on the Bermejo River (in the municipality of the same name),” confirmed the departmental secretary of Productive Development, Efraín Rivera.

Rivera specified that the rivers that increased their flow are: Guadalquivir, Pilcomayo, Bermejo and San Juan del Oro causing damage in nine municipalities in the department of Tarija.
