Inflation measured by the INPC advances to 0.77% in February

Consumption in Brazilian homes ends 2022 with an increase of 3.89%

The National Consumer Price Index (INPC) closed the month of February at 0.77%. The percentage is higher than that of January, when the index was 0.46%. In the year, the indicator accumulates a high of 1.23% and, in the last 12 months, of 5.47%, which means a decrease in relation to the 5.71% observed in the immediately previous 12 months. In February 2022, the rate stood at 1%. The result was disclosed this Friday (10) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).Inflation measured by the INPC advances to 0.77% in February

The deceleration from 0.52% in January to 0.04% in February in the prices of food products contributed to the result. On the other hand, non-food products advanced and recorded a high of 1.01% in February, while in January the increase had been 0.44%.

Regions

According to the February indicator, all areas had a positive change in the month. Brasília was the one with the lowest result (0.34%), impacted by drops in gasoline prices (-2.43%) and airline tickets (-10.06%). The biggest variation was in Curitiba (1.02%), where there were increases of 6.22% in residential electricity and 3.37% in gasoline.

“To calculate the index for the month, prices collected in the period from January 28 to February 28, 2023 (reference) were compared with prices in force in the period from December 28, 2022 to January 27, 2023 (base) ”, informed the IBGE, in a publication in its site.

According to the IBGE, calculated since 1979, the INPC covers families with incomes of one to five minimum wages, residing in the metropolitan areas of Belém, Fortaleza, Recife, Salvador, Belo Horizonte, Vitória, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Curitiba , Porto Alegre, in addition to the Federal District and the municipalities of Goiânia, Campo Grande, Rio Branco, São Luís and Aracaju. The indicator’s collection units are commercial and service establishments, public service and internet concessionaires and the survey extends, in general, from the 1st to the 30th of the reference month.
