By highlighting the role of women in scientific advances, Venezuela called to close the digital gap, during its participation this Wednesday in the 67th Session of the United Nations (UN) Commission on the Legal and Social Condition of Women .
The call was made by the Minister for Women and Gender Equality, Diva Guzmanwho participated in the session through a video.
In her speech, the Minister highlighted, among other topics, the significant advances that women present today in solving problems in Science and Technology, outlined the Permanent Mission of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the United Nations on his account on the social network Twitter.

Important advances in science are presented at the UN
In her speech, Minister Guzmán emphasized that the Venezuelan woman is to be admired given her resistance to adversity in various fields.
“Venezuelan women have demonstrated an admirable action of resistance to adversity in very diverse fields, including the field of agricultural sciences, contributing to food sovereignty, as high-level researchers identifying, for example, the variety of native seeds that they require preservation with gene banks”, highlighted the Minister.
Genomic sequencing of Covid-19
For Minister Diva Guzmán, it is important to highlight and recognize the work of Venezuelan scientists for their contributions to science.
In this sense, in his speech before the UN, he highlighted the outstanding participation of Venezuelan scientists in the genomic sequencing of Covid-19, ranking fourth among Ibero-American countries in research on this matter.
She also said that “in recent years the participation of women in science has been important to solve complex problems.”
He highlighted the progress of the public politicsimplemented by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, with the preponderant inclusion of women, an example of this, is that vice ministries have been created that are led by womensaid the Minister.
Public policies opted for the “creation of the Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, Education and Health, which is led by a woman and brings together four ministries led by women,” he said.
