The Chamber of Deputies held an act this Thursday in tribute to the workers of the Chamber who entered with the return of democracy and still continue to function today, within the framework of the activities for 8M and promoted by President Cecilia Moreau; by the General Directorate of Equality; the Department of Gender and Sexual Diversity (DGRH) and by the General Directorate of Culture and Museum.

Moreau recognized “these working women who entered that very difficult time of the return to democracy.”

And he added: “When that dark time ended, this House had very few women working, today there are women, even parity on the lists and in the leadership of the commissions, but we must move forward so that there are also women in different decision-making areas.”

The event took place this Thursday in the Pasos Perdidos Hall of the Legislative Palace and began with a theatrical performance starring the host Ernestina Pais, who put herself in the shoes of a worker who recalls and questions the reason for the choice of her career.

At the end of the act, Moreau delivered the commemorative plaques to each of the honorees who entered the Chamber from December 10, 1983 and during 1984.

It is a group of 26 women who worked in the care of democracy and consolidated their first steps together with other legislative workers and legislators.

At that time, the young women entered the Chamber between the ages of 20 and 26 and, for many of them, it was their first formal paid employment.

The recognized legislative workers were Marcela Rosana Aizpuru, Jorgelina Andrés, Lilian Inés Benítez, Eduarda Bergalli, Liliana Beatriz Beruti, Sandra Lucia Daher, Gladys Mabel de Rosa, among others.

Legislators Juan Marino, Natalia Souto, Carolina Moisés, and María Rosa Martínez participated in the tribute; Ana Lozano, Parliamentary Deputy Secretary of the Chamber of Deputies; Jimena López, Secretary of Transportation and Malena Galmarini, head of Aysa.

This activity was carried out within the framework of the tributes for March 8, Day of the Working Woman.
