BCRD reaffirms its commitment to gender equality

Santo Domingo.- The governor of Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD)Héctor Valdez Albizu, stressed that the institution “is proving to be a leading organization in the gender equality. This gender equality is evident in the middle managers and sub-management group of the entity. In them, 210 of 394 positions (53.29%) are held by women.

Valdez Albizu indicated that, with regard to the participation of women in the highest executive positions, it is observed that 14 of the 37 positions are held by women. “A statistic that fills us with pride and motivates us to continue working for the dignity of women in our society,” she highlighted.

The governor highlighted these data on gender equality in an activity on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The celebration was offered for all the collaborators of the BCRD.

Activity for International Women’s Day

The activity to commemorate the day consisted of a conference entitled ‘International Women’s Day: Achievements and challenges of Dominican women’, by Soledad Álvarez. She is a poet and essayist, a philologist specializing in Hispanic and Latin American literature from the University of Havana, Cuba.

Álvarez won the Siboney Essay Award for his work “The great homeland of Pedro Henríquez Ureña”. He was awarded the Annual Poetry Award twice, in 2006 for his work “Las estaciones íntimas”, and in 2015 for “Autobiography in the water”. He won the National Literature Award in 2022 and the Casa de América Poetry Award.

As a representative of the female gender in letters, she is an outstanding intellectual.

The writer praised the courage and determination of the Dominican woman, who has bravely faced the molds and machismo that were conceived in past societies. Today she is witnessing notable advances, but she still has challenges to overcome that require everyone’s commitment. Both men and women. “Dominican history is full of famous and anonymous women who have to remain in the memory and recognition of the Dominican people.” This was highlighted by the speaker when referring to the female gender.

The activity, presided over by the governor, was also attended by the lieutenant governor Clarissa de la Rocha de Torres; manager Ervin Novas Bello; the comptroller José Manuel Taveras Lay; the assistant general manager Frank Montaño; assistant managers, directors and advisors; as well as a large public of collaborators of the institution.
