An increase in structural fires is worrying, most of them are due to electrical connections in poor condition

Judith Pena | March 9, 2023

A significant increase, especially in structural fires, has been reported by the Meritorious Fire Department of the Republic of Panama so far this year.

For Lieutenant Colonel Ángel Delgado, this situation is worrying since this indicates that prevention measures are being reduced, people are neglecting prevention measures a little and that is why it is very important to make this call to remember that a preventive measure in time you can avoid situations like the one we have seen in recent fires.

He stressed that structural or house fires have been referred to as electrical situations, that is, connections in poor condition or household appliances that have had some type of deterioration or, failing that, have also faced technical problems and people do not repair or repair them. They send to repair with unsuitable people.

He also spoke about the bad practice of burning grass or plant mass fires, as defined by law in order to act in the event that the person has done so intentionally.

He explained that for this crime there are administrative sanctions of fines ranging from $500 to $5,000 thousand and may also face prison sentences of up to 3 years according to the provisions of article 407 of the Penal Code.
