Former Secretary of Public Security of the Federal District (DF) Anderson Torres, must testify at the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) of Anti-democratic Acts in a closed meeting. The decision, approved this Thursday morning (9), in the plenary of the Legislative Chamber of the DF, was the result of a request by the district deputy Chico Vigilante (PT), chairman of the commission, and signed by the five members of the CPI.
Torres’ testimony was scheduled for this Thursday, but Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), authorized asked the former secretary to remain silent during the session and gave him the option of attending or not. In view of this, the defense of the accused asked that the statement be made in a closed manner, to avoid exposure in the media.
The reserved meeting is scheduled for the morning of March 16, with only the presence of CPI members. Chico Vigilante highlighted that Torres has the right not to want to expose himself, but that the commission needs to hear him.
“He said he has a lot to talk about, that he wants to talk. And we want him to talk. Therefore, we are presenting a request putting all the conditions for him to come, without the exhibition, he has the right not to expose his image, but we don’t want the image, we want his speech”, said the deputy.
District deputy Fábio Felix (PSOL) voted in favor of the request, but highlighted that closed testimonies cannot become routine in CPIs because they are matters of interest to the whole of society.
“I think that the parliamentary commission of inquiry plays a fundamental role in bringing transparency to the society of events that took place on December 12 as on the 8th of January. so it is essential that this case, which is a fundamental case for this Chamber, be an exception”, said Fábio Felix.
Torres is stuck since the 14th of january. He is being investigated for suspected omission during the coup acts in Brasilia, on January 8th. The former secretary, who was also Minister of Justice in the Jair Bolsonaro government, denies the accusations.
In this Thursday’s morning session, the Legislative Chamber also approved the summoning of other authorities to testify at the CPI, such as Colonel of the Military Police of the Federal District Cintia Queiroz de Castro, who is Undersecretary of Integrated Operations of the Public Security Secretariat of the DF.
