"Your Opinion Counts": Senate tool to give citizen participation

Santo Domingo. RD March 9, 2023.- The Senate of the Republic invites citizens to use the participatory platform “Your Opinion Counts”a new tool for people to have the opportunity to present their proposals and opinions about any bill that the senators are working on for the nation.

Citizens should only access the web senatord.gob.doClick on “Your Opinion Counts” located on the front page of the digital page, and they will automatically be able to view all the initiatives that are being analyzed, and after choosing the one of their interest, they will know the details of the legislative initiative and write their opinion, after completing a form with their personal information.

The initiatives and proposals will be received and processed by the senators so that they are considered in the meetings of the Permanent, Special or Bicameral Commissions.

With this instrument, people do not have to wait to be invited to public hearings for their voices to be heard, but from anywhere in the Dominican Republic or the world, they will be able to contact senatorial or bicameral commissions, in order to set its position on any initiative under analysis.

The president of the Senate, Eduardo Estrella, said that the purpose of creating the computer platform is to bring the institution even closer to the citizenry.

“A young man from Pedernales, La Romana, Montecristi, Santo Domingo Este or who is in New York, can today participate in the discussions in the Senate, without bureaucracy or having to travel; Just by sending his proposals and data through the institution’s digital platform, we give participation, which in practice brings us even closer to the people, ”said Eduardo Estrella.

Historical memory

More than 30,000 historical documents of the legislative body are available on the website of the Senate of the Republic, as part of the modernization and transparency process carried out by the institution.

People can access these data by clicking on the “Historical Memory” tab, which contains a variety of valuable legislative information, including laws, contracts, appointments, resolutions, agreements, among others, that were developed since 1931 in the Senate.

Users will be able to search for the legislative archives of their interest, such as the plenary minutes, which contain everything that happened during the sessions, such as attendance, agenda items, debates and voting. The information on the digital portal can be read, downloaded, shared and printed.

The rescue of the historical memory of the legislative body was achieved after an agreement with the General Archive of the Nation (AGN), after the files of the Upper House remained stored in boxes for decades.
