Inflation subsides in February; slowed to 7.62%

Consumer inflation dropped last February, according to information released by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

In the second month of the year, the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) reported a monthly increase of 0.56%, while the annual rate was 7.62 percent.

This represents a deceleration from the data of 7.91% in January, and its lowest level since March of last year, when consumer prices increased 7.45 percent.

Analysts expect that starting this month inflation will begin to subside gradually, this after reaching levels not seen in more than two decades last year.

The Inegi report indicated that, in the case of underlying inflation, which eliminates the most volatile prices of goods and services from its calculation, it continued above the general index, with a rate of 8.29 percent.

Within this item, the prices of merchandise became more expensive by 10.65% compared to the same month in 2022, while services presented an increase in their prices of 5.55 percent.

In the case of non-core inflation, the data for February showed an annual rate of 5.65% in February.

In the interior, agricultural products presented an annual increase of 9.29%, while energy and tariffs authorized by the government 2.77 percent.
