In 2022, the National Police of Peru (PNP) reported 657 complaints of missing women in Lambayeque, of which only 400 were located.
Given this alarming figure, the Ombudsman’s Office (DP) has recommended that the PNP and the Ministry for Women strengthen their institutions for a diligent search.
“We have suggested that the Police reinforce their work in order to carry out the investigation in a timely manner. Also to the Ministry of Women for the reinforcement of its entities such as the Women’s Emergency Center and the Special Protection Unit ”, said the commissioner of the DP in Lambayeque.
This, because the cause of the disappearance of women is related to physical and psychological violence, human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
“We also ask the Ministry of the Interior to evaluate the search protocols, the geolocation. Thus, there is also a rush towards private companies to lift the secrecy of communications because a protocol is followed; but in these cases of disappearance where the woman’s life is at risk every hour, it is necessary to speed up these procedures and find her prompt location ”, said.
Lastly, he pointed out that citizens should be oriented on the procedures to file a disappearance report.
“The complaint qualifies when you are not located at your usual address or your whereabouts are unknown. If you go to your workplace but do not arrive and do not know where it is, you can file a complaint. The population thinks that they should wait 24 hours, that was before, they can file a complaint at any police station and ID is not required”, narrowed.
