Minister of Education apologizes for the expression "not even animals expose their children"

The Minister of Education, Óscar Becerra, expressed his apologies for recent statements about a group of Aymara women who were protesting with their children in and that they were sprayed with tear gas by members of the Police.

“Not even animals expose their children. We see it every day in these nature channels where a mother dies defending her children so that they are not attacked. And we are seeing, can those who take their children and expose them to the violence that we are witnessing be called mothers? Can we get to that extreme of manipulation? the minister said on that occasion.

After these expressions, several institutions, politicians and personalities criticized the head of Education.

“We emphatically reject denigrating expressions issued by the head of the Ministry of Education against the dignity of women, especially Aymara indigenous women”reads the message published by the Ombudsman’s Office on Twitter.

The Manuela Ramos Movement also questioned these words: “Women who were demonstrating peacefully and who had carried their children on their backs were strongly repressed by the PNP, who launched tear gas bombs without any consideration for the children. Now the Minister of Education calls them ‘worse than animals’ and even accuses them of having ‘rented’ them”.

Faced with the wave of complaints and criticism, Minister Becerra apologized.

“I regret that some unfortunate expressions of mine have been used to ignore the rights of children, which are my main concern. The way I have expressed myself, yes, definitely (it has been unfortunate) and for that I have already offered an apology ”, Óscar Becerra told the press.

“I have not referred to Aymara women at any time, I want to clarify that. That has been attributed by people who have tried to interpret my statements to separate Peruvians.”added the head of the Ministry of Education.
