They evaluate 150 places for the construction of water tanks in Huancavelica

An average of 150 pieces of land for the construction of ccochas, or small water dams, are being evaluated in the Huancavelica region.

This was announced by Jesús Pacheco Medina, director of water management at the Yaku Tarpuy Regional Directorate, who also indicated that initially these are only being evaluated in Angaraes and Castrovirreyna.

In each of the provinces there are 75 proposals from the mayors, for which the staff has been evaluating the staff of said institution, in order to find the ones that best fit according to technical needs.

“Climate change is a reality; and the ccochas are important for water consolidation, through the construction of ccochas and infiltration ditches for planting and harvesting water”, affirmed Jesús Pacheco.

He noted: “Depending on the type of soil, it must be permeable to capture rainwater, it will be stored, and being permeable it will absorb it, enriching the aquifer mantle, to have a continuity of flow in the puquiales.”

Likewise, Pacheco Medina noted that water can be harvested, that is, water would be dammed through which, in times of drought (such as the one that occurred at the end of last year) the flow of water could be continued and even so that the population consumes it.

The specialist said that each of these ccochas can cost on average between 80,000 to 200,000 soles, depending on the characteristics of the area.

This will contribute to enriching the economy of the beneficiary populations, since they will be able to count on permanently stored natural water, in such a way that cattle pastures or farms with products for human consumption will have permanent irrigation.

In this sense, he explained that, for the construction of each one of these pools, it is necessary that the place to be dammed must have a naturally ovoid-shaped base, and that the place where the water for the wall is concentrated must be entrenched in rock.

“Among other technical considerations that exist is that the height of the ccocha does not exceed five meters, otherwise it would be a dam and would have another level of studies; that the greatest length of the glass does not exceed 80 meters, otherwise it would already be another level ”, he explained.
