FRENADESO affirms that lawsuits will come against the new contract with Minera Panama

The National Front for the Defense of Economic and Social Rights (Frenadeso), referred this Wednesday to the Government’s announcement regarding the end of the negotiations with Minera Panama.

Through a statement they indicate that the contract is unknown by the Panamanian people and make a comparison with the Hay-Bunau Varilla Treaty, this time, Pascall (FQM)-Cortizo. They assured that they will demand this new contract as they do not agree that the company continues to exploit Panamanian natural resources.

They affirm that the negotiations were illegal, as will be the direct contract if it is approved in the Assembly. “There is a lot of money at stake and envelopes to be distributed for politicians thirsty for money in the middle of an election year.”

Specifically, they addressed one of the points of the new text to be signed by the Government and the Mining Company where 20 years of the new contract are established, extendable to 20 more years, they emphasize that this will take place “in exchange for miseries, environmental devastation and the excavation of other gigantic craters within the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor that intend to extend to the rest of the national territory”.

They pointed out that with this new document both the health, life and future of Panamanians will be compromised.

“There were Judases sitting on both sides of the illegal bargaining table. The Government of Cortizo followed in the footsteps of its predecessors and corrupt governments in defense of mining interests, of that mafia that traffics with migrants and with the natural resources of all Panamanians,” they indicated.
