At 1:30 pm on March 7, 2023, there was a sudden interruption of internet service through the state telephone company Cantv. As of 1:30 p.m. on March 8, 2023, service had not been restored in eastern Venezuela, according to user reports.

Ciudad Guayana in Bolívar state, and Tucupita in Delta Amacuro state, are the states directly affected. Data services through Cantv’s subsidiary, Movilnet, are also non-existent, as is the case with Movistar.

However, chance or coincidence, service failures have also been reported in Cumaná, Sucre state. This entity is the third eastern state with a critical internet service through Movilnet and Cantv.

Despite the fact that the interruption occurred at 1:30 pm on March 7, Cantv made a statement around 4:00 pm, assuring that an optimal fiber cut caused the failure. Other internal sources of the state telephone company reported that a forest fire consumed part of the optical fiber in an area not specified by the sources.

Severe and prolonged interruptions to internet service are common in Venezuela. the most notorious it happened on february 28when half of Venezuela was affected by a total drop in the Internet service of Cantv and its subsidiary Movilnet.
