Neighbors of the Caballito neighborhood expressed their concern this Wednesday about the Buenos Aires government’s road project on Honorio Pueyrredón avenue, where it is building a landscaped corridor, noting that the work, once completed, will not allow the deployment of emergency vehicles such as those of firefighters or ambulances in an area of high population density.

“In Caballito a tragedy is being foretoldof which we have been alerting for months without anyone acting, “they indicated from the neighborhood collective “No to the Honorio Linear Park” through a statement in relation to the work in progress that seeks to replace half of the lanes of the avenue with an eight-block corridor that will go from Gaona to Neuquén.

Strictly speaking, the neighborhood movement expressed its rejection of the linear park since its announcement, in September 2021, and resorted to the presentation of judicial protections to stop -on two occasions- the road works, understanding that it would have a negative impact on the area in environmental material and generate traffic jams.

Weeks ago, the judge in charge of Court 15 in Contentious, Administrative and Tax Matters, Víctor Trionfetti, enabled the continuity of the work whose concession is in the hands of the Miavasa company.

“Throughout the eight blocks from the fake park there are 30 buildings that average 10 stories high, therefore they require pumper trucks with a hydro-elevator. These types of units use stabilizing hydraulic legs that, when deployed, reach a width of approximately 6 meters”, explained the residents.

Against this, they stated that the current width of the community street that is under construction reaches 3.5 meters and they specified that the layout is delimited by concrete blocks on one side and the line of trees, light poles and future bollards on the sidewalk.

“That clearly makes it impossible to deploy the fire trucks. All this without counting the need for tanker trucks, support pumpers or other services, such as ambulances”, they warned.

In this sense, they demanded from the Buenos Aires government “the realization of a fire drill in the first block of Honorio, so that they demonstrate how they would act in case of an emergency”.

“Not only are they ruining our quality of life, but now they are putting our lives at risk. Enough of whims and negotiated, cancel the false park and build our Honorio+Verde project”, they stated in reference to the neighborhood initiative for the creation of a 15-hectare park on the railway land located a few blocks from the questioned work.
