In an interview with the newspaper The State of S. PauloPalácios justified the cancellation of the distance test by claiming that few students have chosen to take it since its creation, in 2020. According to the president of Inep, considering the low adherence, the cost of the digital version of one of the main forms of access to education higher in Brazil is not justified.

A Brazil Agency got in touch with the advisory services of Inep and MEC, who confirmed the information disclosed by the newspaper. According to the report, in 2022, Enem Digital alone cost public coffers BRL 25.3 million. This means that the cost per student was around BRL 860, while in the printed edition this cost was approximately BRL 160.

“We decided to cancel the digital edition and there are no plans for it to happen again”, said Palácios to the Estadão. The physical tests of this year’s Enem are expected to be applied on the 5th and 12th of November. Initially, registrations for the regular exam must be made between May 8th and May 19th.
