Respect for women is a non-negotiable value in the Executive, says Lula

During a ceremony alluding to International Women’s Day, commemorated this Wednesday (8), President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva assessed that, in the midst of a context of various forms of violence against women, it is the duty of the State and the entire society to face each one of them. After signing acts, decrees and bills, Lula highlighted the 11 ministers of his government and classified respect for women as a non-negotiable value.Respect for women is a non-negotiable value in the Executive, says Lula

“Nothing, absolutely nothing justifies gender inequality. Medicine does not explain. Biology does not explain. Anatomy does not explain. Perhaps the explanation lies in men’s fear of being outdone by women. That’s what makes no sense. First, because women want equality, not superiority. Second, because the more women advance, the more the country advances. And that is good for everyone.”

The president recalled that gender inequality is not a problem exclusive to Brazil. He cited data from the United Nations (UN) on income disparity and inequality between men and women that indicate that the issue is even deeper than previously thought.

“Humanity will take 300 years to achieve equality between women and men if current conditions remain. Therefore, we cannot accept that the current conditions are maintained. Gender equality will not come overnight, but we need to accelerate this process. And, if it depended on this government, inequality would end today by a simple decree from the president ”, he concluded.
