Corinthian fishermen have been missing for seven days

The five Corinthian fishermen who disappeared on the high seas have still not been found, seven days after their relatives reported them.

“Since the second day that the relatives informed us of the disappearance, we have been searching. We maintain the search with surface units,” said Nelson Pérez, Commander in Chief of the Naval Force.

The relatives of the disappeared arrived last Sunday at the Pacific Naval District in Corinto, to find out about the search follow-up. “We spoke with the boss and he told us that they are only stocking up on food and returning to the high seas, we also have other boats about 150/200 km away,” said Lester Bermúdez, a relative of one of the disappeared.

William González owns the boat in which they fished and has also supported the search from the beginning. “They have been working with us for about three years and until now this is happening to them, we lost communication since last Wednesday at 6:47 a.m., from that moment on, we have not heard from them again, but we do not lose hope of finding them with life,” he said sadly.

The Nicaraguan Naval Force reported that it has coordinated with the navy of El Salvador, Guatemala and Costa Rica.

For their part, the prayers of their relatives do not wait, they have held services and vigils for them to return alive. The fishermen were identified as; Moises Morales, 22 years old; Salvador Madriz, 19; Pablo Perez, 37; Kevin Arauz, 23; and Abelardo Mendoza, 25 years old.

They left since last March 1 in the boat “Albacora”, in search of fish called dorados, one of the species of greatest commercial interest, found in the depths of the sea.
