The Renovación Popular (RP) and Fuerza Popular (FP) benches separately filed a motion for interpellation against Defense Minister Jorge Luis Chávez Cresta to answer before Congress for the recent deaths of six soldiers while trying to cross the Ilave River in Fist.
Although the interpellatory statement focuses on the events that occurred on March 5, in the case of RP, the minister is expected to answer for the actions of his sector in the altiplano region, as well as for the narco-terrorist ambush in Vraem, where seven police officers died.
Precisely one of the questions in the statement presented by Renovación Popular refers to whether the minister knew about the strategic provisions that were taken in order to provide security and sufficient equipment to police personnel deployed in risk areas, particularly in the VRAEM
“To question the Minister of Defense, Mr. Jorge Luis Chávez Cresta, so that he attends the Plenary of the Congress of the Republic to answer for the soldiers who drowned and those who remain hospitalized with hypothermia, after trying to cross the Ilave river towards Juli, located in the department of Puno”, reads, meanwhile, in a part of the document presented by Fuerza Popular.
