Air transport passengers would be affected with an opinion approved in a congressional commission

The prices of the tickets could be affected by an opinion approved by the Congressional Transport and Communications Commission, warned the general manager of the Association of Air Transport Companies (AETAI), Carlos Gutiérrez.

The proposal that was given the green light in the parliamentary group is one that modifies articles 101 and 102 of Law 27261, Civil Aeronautics Law in Peru.

Through the changes, the passenger’s right to freely choose the seat of his choice on domestic and international commercial flights is recognized at no additional cost. In addition, it is noted that the weight of accompanied hand luggage allowed at no cost is 10 kilograms, “being able to carry it in the cabin of the aircraft.”

In statements to Peru21, the AETAI representative pointed out that the measure could work against it, since the air transport system today offers a range of rates for users, which would be limited.

“At the end of the day they are regulating a service under the name of generating a right. They don’t realize how the system works, which is that you pay for what you want to consume, like in the theater, for example, that the rates vary according to the location, ”he assured.

This situation would also affect companies that operate in the country and that are recovering from the pandemic and the blow caused by social protests. Gutiérrez also pointed out that they have not been asked for an opinion on the matter, despite being the sector linked to the issue.
