A man was detained at Boston airport (USA) for trying to open the emergency door of a plane in mid-flight and stab a stewardess, pointed at a release the US Department of Justice
According to the document, during a United Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Boston, the crew discovered that the emergency door was not properly closed.
A flight attendant said he saw one of the passengers, Francisco Severo Torres, near the gate and asked him if he had anything to do with it. In response, Torres asked if there were cameras in the cabin that could prove it was him.
Soon after, the man got up, went to the stewardess and stabbed him three times in the neck area with a broken metal spoon.
After his attack, Torres was reduced by other passengers and taken into police custody when the flight landed in Boston.
Subsequently, the accused confessed who tried to open the emergency door because he “had the idea” to jump out of the planeadding that he attacked the flight attendant because he believed that he was trying to kill him.
Torres will remain detained until the judicial hearing, scheduled for this Thursday.
He was charged with interference and attempted interference with the work of a flight crew with the use of a dangerous weapon, a crime that provides for Sentences of up to life in prison, supervised release of up to five years, and a fine of up to $250,000.
