In Mexico, 20 percent of the state police force is made up of women, a percentage very close to the international average, and in cases like the capital of the country it is almost 28 percent. However, they have not had equal conditions to develop their careers in corporations.

This was stated by the morenista Olga Sánchez Cordero, president of the Senate Justice Commission, on the eve of the celebration of International Women’s Day, on March 8.

By participating in the forum Creators of Peace: Gender Perspectives in Police InstitutionsHe stated that there is still a long way to go, if we consider that the female population has an active and outstanding participation in the police forces of the Federation, states and municipalities, until a couple of years ago they reported being victims of undesirable work situations, such as receiving sexual advances and solicitations, insults, groping or touching , among other types of violence inside and outside some local institutions.

Sánchez Cordero explained that in the last 43 years, women have opened spaces that were previously forbidden by the patriarchal culture, and today they can be seen, for example, in charge of the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, with Rosa Icela Rodríguez, and of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, with Clara Luz Flores.

In a statement, Senator Martha Lucía Mícher Camarena, president of the Commission for Gender Equality, said that policewomen have broken the glass ceiling and established stereotypesand they have the same right as men to promotions, training and better pay.

The legislator from Morena also stressed that none of those who march in Mexico City should be allowed to attack a policewoman for whatever reason, for whatever anger he has.

Marcela Figueroa Franco, Undersecretary of Institutional Development of the Secretariat of Citizen Security of Mexico City, explained that two thirds of policewomen are mothers and half are heads of family. Being an operational command of the public force requires working 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and being in charge of the family is very difficult; hence they send them to administrative matters, but it is not because they want toexposed.
